I have to admit…I really like beans. Take a big pot of white beans and add a ham hock or salt pork…mmm.
Beans just might not be your favorite but if your grocery store is closed for the duration, they might start looking pretty good.
“A person who is full refuses honey, but even bitter food tastes sweet to the hungry.” Proverbs 27:7 NLTBeans are one of the easiest sources of protein and vitamins to store. With a small investment in time and money you and your family could survive until you are able to secure some meat or other grains ect. You can store grains and legumes all the same way.
We simply started with three 5 gallon plastic buckets and some Gamma Seal Lids from ULINE. Also from ULINE we invested in an extra layer of protection with a carton of 20 x 34” 2 Mil Industrial Poly Bags and a 20” Impulse Sealer. Along with the bags we purchased a carton of Oxygen-Absorbing Packets for extra good measure.
I understand beans and rice will probably keep fine in a 5 gallon bucket sealed with a lid with a rubber gasket. This is another one of the areas of what is possible for you to do or what you can do to take extra precautions. I will let you know how long they will keep the way we did it.
So get down to your neighborhood lumberyard or go to Amazon and get something started. Get some beans, rice, oats, wheat in some buckets and move on.
We have 12 buckets now with all the above and I have to say I like the feeling of knowing my family and I at least have something to on if the lights go out.
